I’ve been asked to provide my “booking experience”, however I will be providing my actual experience from start to the most recent meeting. Booking is great.
The women I’ve talked to while booking have been very nice and professional. However, when the nurse practitioner needed to reschedule the very same day as our appointment, I was told I could not cancel or I would be charged a fee.
My first appointment was with a Nurse Practitioner of Psychiatric Medicine. I was never informed he was a NP. He did not listen to what I was telling him and diagnosed me with unqualified diagnoses. That’s right…2. He read from a script and when I challenged him, he proceeded to give me a definition of each diagnosis.
I reported my concerns to the director of operations who was wonder and gladly helped me get a different provider. Again, the “booking” process for getting a new appointment was great.
The next provider, another Nurse Practitioner, seemed less than thrilled to be in attendance. She asked just a few questions and didn’t bother with a diagnosis. Just handed out the meds. That definitely not a problem in this country.
Next I thought talking to a therapist would be a good idea. Maybe I’m missing something. Turns out, I’m just missing a mental health provider that shows they care about the work their doing. This person also seemed less than thrilled to be working. Not personable, but asked appropriate questions. However there were long pauses between questions or responses. The hour long meeting lasted 45 minutes. She had a cute cat though.

The providers are decent but they have a high turnover rate it seems. Also their billing department sucks. They miss billed for years and then back billed for 3 years worth of bills and could not explain how they came up with the charges they did. They also continued to charge my card on file even after I called and notified them 3 times that my out of pocket had been met.

I wasn’t happy with my experience at all. The doctor I talked with on January 18th, was 10 minutes late for my 2pm appointment and for my Friday 2pm appointment, i kept having trouble getting into her waiting room. When I finally got in, I felt like I got blown off. Not sure if I’m gonna continue with this or not.

Lifestance only pairs you with psychiatrists and therapists that you pick on their website – it isn’t a facility and they don’t help you coordinate care. They require you to provide your credit card info for booking, and give your personal info. Shortly after scheduling with them, my identity was stolen. Someone tried using my social security number to open a credit card and also saw fraudulent charges on my bank card for food purchases. The intake/appointment schedulers were limited in what they knew. Hopefully giving them my personal info was not linked to the fraud that occurred immediately after I gave them my info but it may be likely. Overall not a great experience.

First time there and so glad I chose this location – I can’t compare with anywhere else since I normally go virtual but the office was in a great location. No issues parking or finding it. Had a warm and inviting feel to it (being offered hot chocolate was a nice touch ) Paula was attentive, caring and made me feel comfortable opening up and sharing my history. If you have the option to choose who you see, I recommend Paula for sure.

Disappointed with Treatment Termination
I am the parent of a patient who received treatment at Balance point wellness. My daughter had been undergoing treatment.
Unfortunately, our experience took a turn for the worse when they abruptly stopped my daughter’s treatment. This sudden decision was made without a clear explanation or proper transition plan, leaving us in a very difficult position.
I have the primary custody and in our court order we have, it is a must that My daughter should have a therapist. And also the order mentions Medical Visits. Neither party shall obtain medical treatment for our daughter absent advance written consent of the other party, except for routine physical examinations/check-ups, examinations required for school or extracurricular activity admittance/registration, regular dental check-ups or cleanings, therapy appointments as referenced elsewhere herein, and emergencies requiring urgent care. It is really clear that for Therapist no one can have objection. My ex husband is abusive and he doesn’t want to send our daughter to a therapist because he would be in trouble if they figure out about his behaviors but since he had objection, this office stopped treatment while they had the order.
The impact on my daughter has been significant. She has experienced increased [stress/anxiety] due to the unexpected discontinuation of care. As a parent, I feel that this office did not consider the well-being of the patient or provide the necessary support during this critical time.
While we were initially satisfied with the treatment provided, the way in which it was terminated was unprofessional and detrimental to my daughter’s health. I hope that the clinic take this feedback seriously and work towards improving their patient care and communication practices. They just keep asking me I should provide them a new order. It seems they don’t have a professional lawyer advice.

Everyone i have talked to at Balance point has been a pleasure to talk to, from the staff to the doctors especially Dr. Collins, it’s been my favorite company to work with as a patient. They have been respectful and understanding every step of they way. They listen to you unlike these bigger companies that push patients through just to get your business. Thank you to everyone at Balance point!

I see Yvette here for acupuncture! She is incredible! I have never enjoyed coming to this kind of appointment before! She understands me! She gets my pain! Her needles are magic! She is truly a wonderful and magnificent healer! I wish I found her sooner!
Erica Dziewanowski

The experience was very good. Unable to access tele-appointments from my cell phone (SAMSUNG) which made it slightly difficult. The provider was very good and short to the point, which I liked.
Sometimes difficult to understand provider with thick accent and computer connection, but they were very understanding.
Perfect for my needs.

I’ve been with BPW for a little over 3 years and I love the therapist I’ve been with, The best psychotherapist Ms. Bushra. She’s very attentive and I feel she can break down a lot of complicated concepts very easily. She’s a great treasure to me and for the mental health field.

I had an impressive experience with Gladstone Psychiatry and Wellness. The team is remarkably attentive, and their genuine concern for patients is evident in every interaction. The staff ensures that you feel supported during your journey, making the process of seeking help less daunting.
Moreover, the quality of care provided here is commendable. The professionals take the time to address individual needs, which significantly contributes to overall wool-being. It’s refreshing to find a practice that values patient relationships and prioritizes mental health with such dedication.

Customer Reviews
The care I have received from the provider has been adequate, but dealing with the administration side of things has been difficult. When you call in the office to speak to the front desk you can hear the other front desk attendants talking to patients on other phone lines and can hear absolutely everything they are saying. It’s frustrating to not be able to hear who you are directly speaking to and also concerning to hear private medical conversations of other patients. The Patient Portal is useful to talk to the provider but completely useless for bill pay. I check the portal multiple days before and after my appointment and my bill never shows. I have to call to make payment, which okay no big deal, but in the 6 months I have been a patient I have had (1) mischarge to the wrong credit card due to them not using the card I called in with and using the card in the portal. Again no big deal, but if the portal had my bill available I wouldn’t have needed to call and could have made sure the correct payment was in the portal to pay with. My most recent visit in September there was a discrepancy with the copay on the insurance’s side and a credit was issued to Gladstone and then a credit was placed on my Gladstone portal due to me overpaying my co-pay amount. I was never notified by Gladstone, but due to my diligence of checking the portal I noticed the credit and made note. After my November visit, I again had to call to make payment and when I called I mentioned the credit on my account and that I was calling to pay the balance of the bill with the credit being applied. They took my payment. Now almost 2 full weeks later they are saying I have not made a payment at all and have no credit on my account. After asking them to check again they found my credit card payment, updated the portal and changed the credit to a balance owed, again with no notice. It took me calling back leaving a message and then calling again to get the issue resolved, and again I was the one who made all attempts of communication throughout the entire issue. Good grief. Do better.

Everyone is so helpful and caring. I greatly appreciate that Akeera goes above and beyond every time I need help at the Baltimore office. She always understands my issue/question and has even followed up with an email to provide more information to better assist me. I am so grateful for her and the rest of the office staff at Gladstone.
Nena Davis

If you need help don’t go here. They cancel your appointment last minute. Terrible service!!!
In response to your reply. Check your book for my last name. My child had an appointment and you called an hour before she was to be there and told her it was rescheduled, then didn’t fill her medication because she wasn’t seen. The lack of response’s for medication refill requests are also a big issue. It’s unprofessional to not respond to a client in a timely manner.
Heidi Metalios

Thank you ,Talithea ! I wish I could give you more stars . Talithea is outstanding, very professional , knowledgeable, go above and beyond to address my medical needs. I appreciate you for your quick response and your follow up . YOUR THE BEST !!!

It’s truly unfortunate how horribly Gladstone’s scheduling, administration, and client support is operated. For those seeking mental healthcare, I highly advise seeking alternative practices who are committed to providing reliable, accessible care to their patients.
Here was my experience:
I’ll start by saying that, when I was able to receive care from a provider, the care was fine. Nothing amazing, but I was able to openly discuss my medication strategy and determine best steps with my doctor. My doctor forgot to refill my prescriptions a few times, but nothing terrible.
After being a patient of Gladstone’s Baltimore location for over a year, I was notified that my psychiatrist was leaving the practice with one day’s notice back in March of 2023. I was told on a Wednesday that my psychiatrist was leaving that Thursday, and I had an appointment that Friday. I called to discuss the status of my appointment and was reassured by two different staff members that my appointment (which had been scheduled for 3 months) would still occur as usual with my provider. When I signed into my virtual appointment as scheduled on their internal portal, I was met with 15 minutes of silence until I was finally able to reach client support staff on the phone. They then confirmed that my appointment should have been cancelled and apologized. Thankfully I was able to refill my prescriptions as the next appointment with any available psychiatrist wasn’t for another 3 months.
I waited my 3 months, recompleted my intake documentation as I was seeing a new psychiatrist, and signed into my virtual appointment as scheduled this past week. After waiting 10 minutes in silence, I called Gladstone’s support staff, only to be informed that I should have received a phone call and an email notifying me that my new, replacement psychiatrist had also left the practice. They offered to reschedule with a new therapist, and I told them that I would be searching for new a new psychiatry practice based on my experience this year. They offered a quick, simple apology and hung up.
So now I’m searching for a new practice, unexpectedly, hoping that my prescriptions don’t run out before I can be seen.

Janie is so chill and easy to talk to and is so kind! Vhey is amazing, she is so polite and is on top of everything, quickly too.
Christina Severn

Jeff is soo easy to talk to. He listens, validates your feelings, asks all of the right questions, helped me navigate my heightened feelings & thoughts that tend to go on tangents, just scattered. From my 1st session, I walked away with hope, positivity & enlightenment that I haven’t had in a long time. One key thing mentioned in those early sessions is that I CAN create the family that I want. Recently though, I went through a breakdown, flooding with tears, because of a crossroads with my partner of over 10 years. Jeff was able to fit me into is calendar that same day & this session was over the phone, as opposed to in person. He really saved me! No one else could have consoled me the way he did in that debilitating moment. We reassessed my priorities & purpose, asking those right questions, truly giving me the epiphany that I have to be (and WANT to be) my best self as an individual in every sense first, regardless what is to come. Jeff has an incredible gift. I am soo thankful.

After being with the same psychiatrist for 10 years then retired the thought of finding a new one was not something I eas looking forward to ….but from making of the appointment to the visit (even though its all virtual) everything went smooth. Hopefully i can get back to feeling myself soon
Christina Vlachos

Jeff is one of the best people to talk to. I was not given an intake form and boxed into several categories but was welcomed in with a simple discussion. I have healed through trauma in the past, been recommended great sources of knowledge in books, and felt heard through my journey. I believe that Jeff is the person to talk to when you’re looking to discover yourself and heal.

I have known Alia as a therapist colleague since 2017. I can confidently say that Alia is one of the most empathetic, kindhearted people I have ever met. She has a true gift for therapy work, and has an ability to connect with her clients in a way that I have not often witnessed. She has a decade plus of clinical experience/skills mixed with a very down to earth way with people. She’s the best!

I have known Emily Scheer since she was a student in my psychology courses at Montgomery College some fifteen years ago. Since then, I have followed her academic and professional career closely and with great interest and have gotten to know her very well in that time. Emily is a wonderful person! She is bright, has a broad knowledge of her field, and is a person of impeccable integrity. She is kind and warm, and is a genuinely caring and compassionate person. She is easy to talk to and has what I like to call a “therapeutic” way about her. I am certain that she is an excellent therapist!…..Donald J. Palmer, Ph.D.

Alia is one of the most impactful therapists I’ve ever come across in the field. Not only does she go above and beyond as a supervisor, she genuinely care about her clients and their wellbeing. Do not hesitate reaching out to her! Take the first step and give her a call – I promise you won’t regret it.
Kaelan Keller (DoubleK)

I’ve had the privilege of working with Emily Scheer for quite some time now. Dealing with generalized anxiety and body dysmorphia, I’ve found Emily to be an exceptional therapist. She not only attentively listens and empathizes with my struggles but also provides valuable guidance for improvement. Unlike past therapy experiences where it felt like therapists solely asked questions, Emily takes the initiative to understand the root causes of my issues. I can honestly say that my ability to acknowledge my anxieties and work through them on my own is because of Emily. I wholeheartedly endorse her services!

I will always be grateful to Raffi for helping me through a very challenging time in my life. Within a few minutes of our first meeting, I was comfortable talking to him. He’s a superb listener. As we continued to meet over the next several months, I continued to grow from our interactions and generally just feel better and more confident. I would highly recommend Raffi to anyone.
Andrew K. Stein

Raffi has provided me with some of the most invaluable life advice and counseling that I have ever received. On several occasions he steered me away from personal disaster, both in my married life, professional life, and otherwise. Wish there were more therapists like him you could trust to do what they’re trained to do!
Moshe Friedman

Raffi has been a great listener and sounding board for the things I have been going through in my life. His non-judgmental and caring approach have really made a difference for me. When I have had to make important decisions in the face of uncertainty and conflicting information, Raffi has really been great at helping me identify and sort out the emotions which distort and confuse matters, enabling me to make choices that I feel good about and that are consistent both with who I am and who I want to be.
Shlomo Tzvi Baden

Raffi is insightful, intuitive, experienced, and has a sense of humor. I have full faith that anyone who enters into therapy with him will gain a deeper understanding of themselves; his goal is to give you the tools that you need so that you can independently be responsible for changing your life to be better and more fulfilling. When I needed to include a therapist in my Masters thesis, without hesitation I called Raffi and asked him to help out. I would recommend Raffi to a friend or relative without qualm.
Also, I have attended some of his workshops, and found them interesting, insightful, and entertaining. I heartily recommend these as well.

Working with Caitlin for several sessions over the years, I find she is able to validate the areas of my life (my marriage, time management, pregnancy anxiety, child rearing, interpersonal relationships, work/home balance)I wished to improve in my life, offering practical guidance and encouragement that I believed I could excel. I’ve had mostly one-on-one sessions and I have attended workshops on time management and another on strengthening my marriage. Caitlin is very professional–I found her organized, attentive and thorough. She made herself available when I had to reschedule sessions and she would follow up with me on her own time if she knew I was going through a challenging experience. She is one of the most top-quality people I have ever met. I enjoy her personality–she’s to the point yet incorporates much humor. I worked with her mainly when she lived in New Jersey but have reached out to her on occasion now that she is in Maryland because I consider her refreshingly insightful and positive. I would highly recommend working with her.

In the beginning they seemed eager to help , further on they became Inconsistent and distant I’m starting to think that they are getting payed for services that they are not rendering. Very inconsistent therapist are more so social workers and relocate once receiving their clinicals so you create a bond just for them to break & have to start the process all over again it just felt like they gave up after awhile

I love the program because it gives motivation and it gives me so much support in I love the people in the program they help me and my family to come along way that’s why I am still in the program

I’ve been trying to update my insurance for over four months now. I’ve been told it’d be updated twice. I’ve called repeatedly, always getting the answering machine, and my messages are never returned. I’ve texted (and received false assurances). I’ve emailed (got no reply). I’ve tried to visit the location in person during business hours (building was locked).
Is this business even a business? I’m not paying if you’re not going to submit to the correct insurance.
Update: It turns out that their phone number listed on Maps, their website, and their invoices is for their physical office, which is not monitored. The voicemail is supposed to be monitored, but isn’t, apparently. I submitted an update request for this Map listing’s phone number, so we’ll see if that takes.

I love Apex Counseling Center! The staff is very respectful, kind, and understanding. They are very welcoming and has made me feel comfortable since my first appointment. I feel like everyone I see on a regular basis makes me feel like they HONESTLY care about me and other patients. I don’t feel like it’s all about money with Apex, I feel like they actually care about my well-being. They have my best interest at heart. I feel that everyone there actually cares and encourages me to get better and do better The women at the front desk are always so kind and sweet, especially Ingrid. Dr. Astrada is very patient and understanding. He listens to how you feel, and he makes me feel like he actually cares. My therapist is Jeffrey. He is the best therapist I have ever had. He is very respectful. He always knows just what to say. He always has me to look at things from different perspectives. He offers great suggestions. He gives me great techniques and exercises for me to practice to help with my anxiety and other things I go through. And they work. I was very depressed when I first seen Jeffrey, he has help me to get through that dark time and come out stronger. I have made more progress in the past year since I have been going to apex, and have sessions with Jeffrey, than I have in my 31 years. I put the work in to change my life, but Jeffrey has encouraged me the whole way. Jeffrey encourages me to follow my dreams, and helps me to attain my goals. I am truly grateful for Apex and the staff that God placed in my life to help me change my life. I would and do recommend Apex to everyone, family and friends. If Apex Counseling can help me change my life, then I know they can help anyone change their life.

Apex Counseling and especially Dr. Jeffrey have been a huge help in my life. They did a great job of getting me an appointment and therapist as fast as possible. It was extremely obvious they want to make sure their clients are taken care of.
Dr. Jeffrey was given my case, something I feel very lucky about. Every appointment he gives new perspectives and connects the dots on how to improve my life. Furthermore, he’s very relatable and knows things are hard but helps you find ways they can get better. I feel like the techniques he gives me are ones I can take with me for the rest of my life.

My daughter started seeing Jeff as our family was entering into a seperation period. My fear was that she would have a hard time opening up but that was laid to rest immediately. Jeff was able to get her to open up and he also taught her ways to handle her emotions in a healthy way which was life changing. I’m very appreciative of Apex and Jeff specifically for helping our family. I highly recommend Jeff to work with children who may be suffering from depression and anxiety.

I really enjoy working with Jeff. I’ve been seeing therapist almost my whole life. I like the way Jeff breaks things down and explains things to me. I look forward to each session because I feel he does help me with the new coping skills and stuff he showed me to deal with my stress. I would definitely recommend him.

Tia Gross makes every effort to show me that I am valued, appreciated, thought of, and cared about. She is always willing to listen. She creates a comfortable environment for you to open up. Even at your most vulnerable state, Tia’s inviting spirit makes you want to share without putting any pressure on you.

I simply talked about my situation and she ruled out that I wasn’t homicidal or suicidal.

I called in to get check out some options for family therapy for my ex and I to get some consensus on how to navigate providing for our daughter from separate households after some difficult experiences. I haven’t even had my intake appointment but am so impressed with the care I got just scheduling the appointment. It was like a therapy session, I feel so hopeful after talking to Kandace. There were nuanced subjects that this group seems to be well versed in. On top of that, I can’t imagine you could possibly find better rates anywhere, they make counseling accessible during these difficult times. I will update once we have our formal session with Asia but I am already so grateful I called Thriveworks and, after an intake like that, can’t wait to see what we are able to accomplish for our family through the formal therapy process! I don’t think I’ve ever been so anticipatory of going to therapy. If you are trying to decide on where to get some assistance in creating the life you want, I already feel confident in encouraging you to check this place out.

Frequently asked questions about psychologists in Baltimore
What types of services do psychologists in Baltimore offer?
Psychologists in Baltimore provide a range of services including individual therapy, group therapy, couples counseling, and psychoeducational assessments. They often help individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, stress management, and relationship issues. Additionally, some psychologists specialize in child psychology and family therapy.
How do I choose the right psychologist for my needs?
Choosing the right psychologist involves considering several factors. First, identify your specific needs and what you hope to achieve through therapy. Research potential psychologists by looking at their specialties, reading reviews, and checking their credentials. It can also be beneficial to schedule an initial consultation to assess if their approach aligns with your goals.
Are psychologists in Baltimore covered by insurance?
Many psychologists in Baltimore accept insurance, but coverage can vary widely depending on the provider and policy. It is advisable to check with both your insurance company and the psychologist’s office to confirm acceptance of your plan and to understand any potential out-of-pocket costs.
What should I expect during my first appointment?
During your first appointment, you can expect the psychologist to ask about your history, current concerns, and goals for therapy. This initial session is often focused on building a therapeutic relationship and may include discussing your mental health history. It is a chance for you to ask questions and get a feel for the psychologist’s approach to treatment.
How long does therapy typically last?
The duration of therapy can vary significantly depending on the individual’s needs and goals. Some individuals may benefit from just a few sessions for specific issues, while others may require long-term support over several months or even years. It’s important to discuss your expectations with your psychologist to establish a suitable treatment plan.
Can psychologists prescribe medication?
In Maryland, most psychologists cannot prescribe medication, as they do not hold a medical degree. However, some psychologists with additional training may have limited prescribing authority under certain conditions. Typically, if medication is necessary, the psychologist may refer you to a psychiatrist or a primary care physician for evaluation and treatment.
What is the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist?
The main difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist is that psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication and often treat mental health issues primarily through medication management. Psychologists, on the other hand, focus on psychotherapy and behavioral interventions to help individuals manage their mental health. Understanding this distinction is crucial when seeking help.
What are the signs that I should seek help from a psychologist?
It may be time to seek help from a psychologist if you experience prolonged feelings of sadness, anxiety, or overwhelm. Other signs include difficulty managing daily responsibilities, experiencing changes in sleep or appetite, or facing relationship difficulties or trauma that impacts your well-being. If you feel that your mental health is interfering with your quality of life, don’t hesitate to reach out for help.
How can therapy help with stress management?
Therapy can provide valuable tools and strategies to help individuals manage stress effectively. Through various therapeutic techniques, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and mindfulness practices, psychologists can help clients identify stressors, develop coping mechanisms, and create a personalized plan for managing stress more effectively, leading to improved emotional resilience.
What is the role of confidentiality in therapy?
Confidentiality is a critical aspect of the therapeutic relationship, built on trust. Psychologists in Baltimore are bound by ethical guidelines that protect the privacy of their clients. Information shared during therapy is typically kept confidential, with certain exceptions such as imminent risk of harm to self or others, or legal obligations. Understanding these policies can help create a safe atmosphere for open communication during sessions.
