I got married in October and needed a dress within 2 weeks. I can’t remember my stylist name but she is part time, short black women, with an amazing personality. I was nervous being plus size but she related and made me feel at ease. Wonderful store and great staff all around from sales to alterations.

Maria V is one of the best associates! She really enjoys her job and is honest and helpful. It was a joy working with her and she was quickly able to figure out what type of dress that I preferred most. She is also generally very personable and kind person. She was kind enough to ask my budget to get an idea of what dresses to bring. When I continue to search for my dress I will definitely plan to have her be my stylist. Thank you Maria!!!
Toteona Gray

I ordered my dress online through Birdy Gray originally, but only left myself a week and a half for Alterations. When I showed up, I was served quickly at Alterations both times for the initial fitting and for the final fitting. I did have to pay a rush fee since I dropped off and picked up within 1 week, but I will definitely be coming back for any alterations need as the staff was very helpful and polite. Thanks for such a positive experience!

Kelli did an amazing job helping us today. She had so much patience and was so friendly. From the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out everyone was so kind. The establishment was clean and well organized. I got my dream dress and can’t wait to go back for my bridesmaids dresses! If you decide to go ask for Kelli!!

Arminee was an amazing seamstress! She was so helpful and insightful on how I could look appropriate, decent and well put together. I really appreciated her expertise. She was very thoughtful and very kind on how she handled me and my purchase my dress for a special event. I would definitely refer her to others because I really had a great experience with her!

I recently said yes to the dress here at Deja Vu Boutique! I had so much fun trying on dresses with the help of Leah. She made my experience so enjoyable and fun. I had an idea of what I thought I wanted but she helped me see the beauty in other dresses as well and I ended up falling in love with a slightly different style. She was amazing and couldn’t have asked for a better helper to pick out my wedding dress! This place is amazing. I had a VIP appointment and I was able to go with a good number of my close friends and family. We were greeted with such warmth and positive energy that I was so excited for my appointment. Wryan was my bridal stylist and he was phenomenal!! With not much to go on, he was able to pull everything I needed and have me great advice. Tanya the owner was so sweet and the other stylists in the store were also so kind when speaking to us. I definitely recommend this place if you would love to come in and find your dress. The fact that is black owned is another huge plus!

I had such an amazing experience at Lily’s this day. I worked with D and after a great conversation she was able to find my dress. I sent her 3 completely different reference photos and yall she found my dress, the first dress I tried on mind you. Everyone was super sweet and they didn’t rush me or try to make me get something I was completely in love with. I would def recommend this shop to anyone. Such an experience

Found my dress at Lily’s. I had an amazing experience, and felt like they knew what I was looking from after a brief discussion. I bought the first dress I tried because they understood me so well. They were very patient with my family and I, and let me try on multiple dresses so I could be solid in my choice. They gave great tips on how I can spruce up my look as well. Highly recommend!
VSowmya Venkat

My experience with them was above and beyond !!! I didn’t know what to expect as my first time shopping for a wedding dress and being plus size. As soon as I walked in I felt so welcomed and the very first dress they picked for me was SPOT ON MY DREAM DRESS. I ended up going back to it each time I tried on another dress. I finally said yes to the dress and they made it so memorable. Absolutely recommend them !!!

We had the BEST experience at Lily’s bridal! Kim, the owner, was the one who helped my daughter today. I gave her some information and a few inspo pics and she nailed it! The very first gown she chose was “the one”! Kim brought us several other options and tried different styles for my daughter, but we ended up going back to the first gown. Kim is so patient and extremely knowledgeable. We never felt rushed or uncomfortable in any way. I will recommend Lily’s bridal to every bride I know! Thank you so much Kim and Lily’s Bridal for an unforgettable experience!

I wish I could have liked this place. The girl I had that helped me pic out dresses was so sweet and helpful. She was the best part of the whole experience. The lady who checked me out… well that’s a different story. She walked so fast and gave me such anxiety. I thought it was me just having all these emotions from saying yes but others even made comments. When I wanted to change my mind….it was a whole stressful situation. I asked to speak to the owner… told I couldn’t, I emailed the owner or to an email address I got an email from and nothing. They kept $400 of my money when the dress wasn’t ordered at all but I’m out of that store. I really wanted to love it there but customer service is #1 specially when it’s your wedding dress.

Working with Shira and her team of experts, they designed a beautiful dress for me. It was so much fun and my favorite part of the wedding planning process!
Dena Leibowitz

We cannot thank Shirah and her team enough! Our gowns were absolutely incredible and expressed our personalities perfectly! Shirah’s team was so flexible with scheduling (having some kids out of town) and so accommodating. They listened to what we wanted and produced masterpieces. We can’t wait for our next wedding where Shirah and her team are creating more gowns for us!!!!
Marni Riffkin

They were so nice and accommodating of my needs and alterations I may have needed. All the gowns are gorgeous and completely customizable.
They cover alterations and dry cleaning afterwards easy pick up and drop off. 10/10

5 stars from beginning till end. Was a pleasure Working with Shira and her team. The Gown was beautiful.
Yehuda D

If I could give negative stars I would. The owner is the rudest person I have ever interacted with. She was so sweet and accommodating at our first appointment but it was all downhill from there. She assured us that she could make what we asked for although some of the fabric might be a little different because it’s a hard color to match. We ordered 3 dresses. The first she made and was a completely different dress. The cut was the same but the fabric and pattern was completely different. Three weeks after our first appointment she still didn’t have the fabric for the second dress which means she had to cancel the fitting. She didn’t call to cancel the fitting until the morning of and then blamed us for not telling each other it was canceled 2 hours later. She also hung up on myself and my sister when she didn’t like the way the conversation was going and then refused to call back. I have never experienced such horrible customer service and I truly don’t understand how she is still in business. I cannot steer you away from this shop fast enough. Save yourself and go literally anywhere else for your gowns.
To their credit, her assistants are wonderful, sweet women and I cannot understand how they put up with such a horrible owner. Someone please offer them a job so they can work with better people, they deserve it after putting up with her.
*Update-my mother looked beautiful because she is beautiful. She ordered a dress from another company after seeing what was made because it wasn’t what she asked for but didn’t have enough time to tailor it before the wedding which is why she wore the dress Liylah made.

I’m convinced that Jill is a legit miracle worker and if you need any alterations done to any of your garments, especially a wedding dress, do not hesitate to entrust her with them. I had fallen in love with my wedding dress seven years before I got married, and by the time that rolled around the only one left in existence was the sample size 4 (let’s be real, it was more like a size 0) that the model wore in photos. I reached out to Jill prior to purchasing to give her a general idea of my nowhere near size 0 measurements, and she eased my concerns and assured me that we would be able to make it work. And boy, did she deliver! I felt incredible, and comfortable, on my wedding day in the dress of my dreams thanks to Jill. Not to mention she is also an extremely supportive, fun, and encouraging person to be around! And her studio space is divinely charming as well. She is uber talented, and I even ended up purchasing some gorgeous Swarovski crystal earrings she created that I wore on the big day (and will wear for other occasions for many years to come). Perpetual thanks to Jill and her team!

Jill is an incredible artist. I came to her with a dress and a dream. She waved her magic wand and brought that dream to life. I think my mother actually referred to her as my “Fairy Godmother” throughout the planning process. When we came to her studio for the first time, she encouraged me to wander around, try pieces on, figure out what inspired me. Everything in her studio sparkles in the sun in the most magical way. I felt like a little kid playing in my mother’s jewelry box. As I talked, she sketched. Although I had the dress in hand, and an idea of what I wanted the end results to be, I was overwhelmed by all of the possibilities. I would need alterations and accessories and a wonderfully creative talent to take the reins. Did I mention that I also lived across the country while planning this wedding so we were limited on time and fittings? Yes, I presented quite the challenge, but she delivered just as I knew she would. Jill created a custom head piece, along with a belt, and a floor length veil. We selected a pair of gold and Labradorite earrings from her collection, which completed the look. I can’t stress enough that I’m not a girly girl. I’m a photographer. I stay behind the scenes wherever possible, but on my wedding day I sparkled in the sun in the most magical way. I owe that to Jill Andrews.
Marisa Bandy

I’m so glad I chose to work with Jill for my custom wedding dress. I can’t imagine having worn anything other than the dress she made, which was so detailed and personal. Jill is kind, warm, and welcoming. She asked thoughtful questions about what I wanted and listened thoughtfully, even when I wasn’t quite sure myself. She helped me articulate my dream dress: I said I wanted to feel like myself, and to be able to move freely. Jill saw my vision and delivered so perfectly, almost as if she anticipated my needs before I even knew them. At my fittings, Jill made me feel like I was at home. She is knowledgeable and body inclusive. She knew the shapes and structures that would best complement my body and made adjustments to ensure that I was always comfortable in the corset. In fact, I was so comfortable that I still wish I could wear my dress every day! It was the first garment I’ve ever worn that I felt truly fit me. Jill’s studio has a magical atmosphere, and she is the fairy godmother to match. She goes above and beyond for her clients and I am so thankful for the careful, loving work that she put into my dress. Because of Jill, I felt beautiful and confident at my wedding, and every bride deserves that.
Maxi Wardcantori

Jill is amazing! I am so happy I came to her for my dress alterations. She was so welcoming from the get-go & communicative throughout the entire process. My original gown did not have a train, but Jill added a small one to it which looked beautiful. She also knew I was hiking outside in my gown so she added a pin-up bustle that was so useful! I loved working with Jill and would recommend her to anyone! On top of that, her studio is so bright and beautiful.

she was amazing and did an awesome job tailoring my wedding dress and did amazing with time and check to make sure everything was perfect. My dress was a little complicated but she perfected it and made it work.
Madi St. Pierre

I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect experience! She made sure the dress fit me perfectly!!! I needed a couple layers hemmed and my shoulders taken in, which was no problem for her. I also had a train, so Toni put in a bustle that my maid of honor was able to do up easily. I could dance in it no problem! Toni is very sweet and accommodating, but will tell you straight up if she can’t do something. She made sure my dress was done on time and charges a much better rate than other tailors. Please be aware that she works part-time and has flexible hours, so if you can’t reach her through the store’s number, you can text the number in her voicemail message and she’ll get back to you.

This is a professional, experienced, and kind family-owned business. I chose to get my wedding dress altered here and it was a great and cost-effective decision! I was well taken care of, charged reasonably, and my dress fit perfectly afterwards! I told them I was having a barefoot wedding on the beach and they took all those details into account for the alterations. I would definitely recommend Isabella Bridal to others and I plan to bring more things back to them in the future! Thanks again!
Sofie Ganev

I had a great experience here! Isabella Bridal was recommended to me by a friend who had her dress altered here as well. I had about 7-8 weeks before my wedding and several other places I had called had told me they couldn’t help me. I was so relieved when I called Isabella Bridal and they were not alarmed by my timeline. The seamstress was so kind and delightful and altered my dress perfectly – she was very talented. She put stitches in a few places to help with gaps and made the underskirt shorter so that the dress fluffed out a little more which avoided needing a full hemming. She also made a bustle and showed me how to use it. Would definitely come here again for formal alterations and would highly recommend her!
Sierra McNew

I was recommended by a few people to check our Isabella Bridal for alterations on a bridesmaid dress and they did not disappoint! They worked with me to find a date to come in for the initial fitting, even though the wedding was only a month away! After getting the alterations, I had something else I wanted touched up and they got it done in 2 days, the week before the wedding!
They were patient and made the dress fit perfectly for the wedding. I highly recommend going here if you need any type of alterations. I will definitely be going back once it’s my turn to walk the aisle!

Susan and Joan were absolutely incredible to work with! I was gobsmacked when I saw my dress for the first time. I asked Susan to redesign my mother’s 80s wedding dress. I had hoped it would turn out great but I could have never dreamt of what she did. The dress looked timeless and new, but still kept the integrity of the original dress. She truly has a gift!
Including pictures of the dress before and after!
Amanda Gilbert

While I am sorry to hear of some of the experiences mentioned below, my experience with Susan and Joan could not be more different. My dress required some strap adjustments and a hem, both of which were well-done. My dress had a really intricate lace hem and I was very protective of who would handle my dress- both Susan and Joan were always very kind and effusive about my entire bridal look and offered great advice on accessorizing. I felt that, especially when talking with other seamstresses, the rate I paid for alterations was reasonable in light of paying a living wage to the folks on Susan’s team.
I also appreciated how they came to myhxome and handled me with care when I had to have emergency gallbladder surgery the week before my wedding (!). Thank you Susan and Joan for handling a gown i love dearly with such care!
Hannah Davidson-Swinton

Susan and her team are amazing at what they do! When I was planning my wedding, I knew I had my mom’s wedding dress that was hand-sewn by my grandmother, and was interested but not hopeful that I’d be able to resize and restyle it to use for my wedding day. Fortunately, we found the Wedding Dresser studio in Baltimore to bring this vision to life! Susan and her assistant Joan worked with me to envision the dress in a new style and then brought that style to life one session at a time. The final dress was even more beautiful than I anticipated, and it was an incredibly special experience to share with my mom and grandmother. Thank you Susan, Joan, and everyone at the Wedding Dresser for your creativity and hard work!!

EDIT: photos have been added and are from my final fitting. The last photo shows how the dress fit once properly tailored by another shop.
I was going to wait to write this review until after my 9/21/24 wedding, but felt it was imperative that I post sooner rather than later for the benefit of other brides. I will add photos of my dresses after our wedding.
I deeply love and respect small business owners, and understand the weight reviews have, so it pains me to leave this. I brought my dress to Susan and her team at their Baltimore location in mid-July 2024. My dress needed to be hemmed, taken in at the bodice, and straps shortened. I was quoted ~$1400. While expensive, I believe in Susan’s mission of paying her employees a living wage and believed that this price reflected the high quality of their alterations. I also brought Susan a gown to be shortened to tea length, let out, and sleeves removed for my rehearsal dinner. I was quoted ~$1000.
I picked up my wedding gown on Saturday, 9/14 after the prior 3 fittings in which I was expressing concerns with extra fabric in the side bust. In previous fittings Susan and her team attempted to add a dart to correct this problem, which caused the bust line to come to a point. I am grateful for their work to then remove the dart and try another approach to correct the issue extra side bust fabric issue.
When I picked up my wedding gown, the problem of the extra fabric at the side bust was not corrected. Furthermore the cups were added to the dress without appropriately stretching the fabric around the cup, causing a bunching effect of the fabric. I picked up my dress, having paid an extra $100 for an extra fitting (per Susan’s contract), and promptly brought my dress to another seamstress who, luckily, was kind enough to fit me in for a rush appointment less than a week before my wedding day. The bodice fit was easily corrected by this seamstress in one fitting.
My rehearsal dinner dress was provided to me for pickup with a lining layer left raw, which I will now finish at home on my own machine. The horse hair hem of my wedding dress is not snug to the bottom of my hem, as it originally was, and in some locations, the hem doesn’t appear straight. In one of my last fittings, Susan pointed out that the straps of my dress started to turn grey, which she claimed was from handling the dress a lot through alterations. She said I could get the dress cleaned if I wanted, but I declined. I understand how this was possible, but it seems that some measures should be taken to avoid discoloring wedding dresses while working on them.
Susan repeatedly commented on the difficulty of working with designer dresses, and misidentified my dress fabric as crepe (it is silk mikado). I found it troubling that someone with her level of experience made these comments.
I believe Susan was well-intentioned in her efforts to ease my anxiety throughout the process, and truly do appreciate the intention. Multiple times, she insinuated that I was experiencing “bridal psychosis”, meaning that I was picking apart my dress given the pressures of being a bride. I agree – being a bride is stressful, and can lead us to second-guess ourselves. However, this phrase is inappropriate and gaslighting. My dress had serious problems, which another seamstress agreed with and promptly acted on. Furthermore, making light of mental illness in this manner is insulting.
This experience left me more stressed than I have ever been in my life. I hardly slept or ate these last few weeks because in the two weeks before my wedding, I wasn’t sure if my dress could be saved. I had nearby bridal shops holding samples for me, as until finding a new seamstress, I thought I would have to buy a whole new dress again.
Multiple times through my months of working with Susan and her team, I was asked to write a review. I’m deeply sorry it has to be this one. I appreciate the opportunity to work with Susan, Joan, and Joy, and genuinely wish them well and success with future brides’ dresses. Perhaps I was just unlucky.

I was so happy with my experience at the Wedding Dresser. Susan made me truly confident that she would be able to alter my dress that was ordered too small by the bridal studio who fit me. I also really appreciate the help & support of Joan, who was there from the beginning of my alterations to the end. And when I say that dress fit perfectly when The Wedding Dresser was through with it, I mean it fit perfectly! It was so comfortable & the bustle was beautiful. I will forever be grateful for Susan & her team, including her Brooklyn team who helped with alterations.

Frequently asked questions about wedding dresses in Baltimore
What styles of wedding dresses are popular in Baltimore?
In Baltimore, brides often gravitate towards a mix of classic and modern styles. Popular choices include ball gowns, A-line dresses, and mermaid silhouettes. Many brides also consider bohemian styles with intricate lace and soft fabrics, reflecting both elegance and personal style. Seasonal trends can also play a significant role, influencing choices in fabrics and colors.
How can I determine my wedding dress budget?
Establishing a budget for a wedding dress involves considering several factors. First, set a realistic number based on your overall wedding budget. Remember to account for additional costs such as alterations, accessories, and cleaning after the wedding. Researching average costs in Baltimore can provide a better understanding, and visiting several stores can help you gauge pricing options.
What should I consider when choosing a wedding dress shop in Baltimore?
When selecting a wedding dress shop, consider location, the shop's reputation, and the variety of styles they offer. Look for reviews and seek recommendations from friends and family. Additionally, assess the shop's customer service and the attentiveness of the staff during your visit. A welcoming atmosphere can greatly enhance your shopping experience.
How far in advance should I buy my wedding dress?
It is generally recommended to purchase your wedding dress at least 6 to 12 months before your wedding date. This timeline allows for appropriate fittings and alterations, which may take several weeks. Ordering early is vital, especially if you choose a designer dress that requires a longer lead time for production and shipping.
What are the current trends in wedding dress fabrics?
Current trends in wedding dress fabrics include lightweight materials such as chiffon and tulle that allow for movement and comfort. Lace still holds a timeless appeal, often used in overlays and detailing. Silk remains a popular choice for its elegant drape, while some brides opt for sustainable fabrics to reflect their eco-friendly values.
How do I know which dress style is best for my body type?
Choosing the right dress style for your body type can significantly impact how you feel on your big day. A-line dresses flatter most body shapes and provide a balanced silhouette, while empire waist gowns are great for those looking to highlight the bust. Ball gowns are ideal for creating a dramatic look, whereas mermaid styles accentuate curves. Consider trying on various styles to see what complements your figure best.
What type of alterations might I need after purchasing a dress?
Most wedding dresses will require some level of alteration to achieve the perfect fit. Common alterations include adjusting the hemline, taking in or letting out seams, and modifying the bodice or sleeves. It’s beneficial to budget for alterations and schedule a fitting appointment well before the wedding day to ensure adequate time for adjustments.
When should I start looking for accessories to pair with my wedding dress?
It’s best to start looking for accessories once you have selected your wedding dress. This allows you to choose pieces that complement the dress's style and fabric. Consider accessories such as veils, jewelry, and shoes to enhance your overall look. Starting the search early can help you find pieces that truly capture your unique style.
Can I buy a pre-owned wedding dress in Baltimore?
Yes, buying a pre-owned wedding dress is a popular option for many brides seeking to save money or find unique designs. Several boutiques in Baltimore specialize in reselling gently used wedding dresses. Online marketplaces and bridal consignment stores offer a plethora of choices. Just remember to check for any necessary cleaning or alterations to ensure the dress is in perfect condition before the wedding.
What should I do if I find a dress I love but it’s out of my budget?
If you find a dress that is beyond your budget, there are several options to consider. First, you might inquire about sales or discount periods at the shop. Another option is to look for similar styles that are more affordable, either in different shops or even in pre-owned versions. You could also consider adjusting your budget by reallocating funds from other wedding expenses if the dress means that much to you.
