My name is Candyce Jackson and I am a seventh grade student at GSA. This is my first year at GSA and I already am in love with it!! The teachers want to help you and they want you to succeed, they actually care about you and how your grades affect you. The best part about going to GSA is the merit and demerit system. This system is used when a child does good and when they do bad, for example, if you continue to talk after the teacher has asked you to stop, you will get a demerit and if you do something good you get a merit. I love how the staff handles every situation. I also LOVE our principal Ms. Lindsy, she takes care of you right away and she helps when it is needed. The new building is so beautiful I adore it! If you want your child to go to GSA I highly recommend it, hoe or she will be getting the best education I promise. GO GSA!!!

Very good school academic wise. Though there could be changes in the policies that enable students to come in and stay, I fear that they have lowered their standards. Mainly because most teen aged girls have going to an all girl school last on their minds. At any rate, the art and music departments exceed all levels of expectation and the different academic departments are very efficient in making sure that the students get the most out of Western High School

An experience which I would much rather recommend as 0 stars. No child deserves to deal through this for nine years. The mice and roaches throughout the school are something that must be known to all families. I am impressed with how low the withdrawal rates from the school. The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting and it takes forever for them to get cleaned. I am sure I may sound like a pessimist, but I will admit, I am not exaggerating whatsoever. Parents do not know the issues with the school. Teachers do not care and I am shocked by the amount of stories I hear about teachers publicly embarrassing students. When students are injured, some students do not give a darn. Students do not receive proper training for all the issues they deal with. Keep in mind, throughout this, this is about 1/4 of the issues. I may be biased due to the fact I went to this school, but it is truly awful. They make students pose for cameras, even when they are unhappy here. Whenever there is a school wide review of the school, nothing gets fixed because they give us multiple choices and not just our opinion and a free place to type. Bathrooms are unavailable unless everyone is going as a class, which can be irritating when say, you are on your period. Teachers are biased and often play favorites. Specific teachers are known to let students walk out of the classroom when upset, where they could get hurt and some teachers don’t let the office know when such happens. My friendly recommendation? Do not go to this school. Try anywhere else.

My child started BIA Sept 2012 in Russian. It was a long year and a lot of children. I really think that the class size should be smaller since the teacher is teaching in a different Language. My child did learn Russian however; he/she is not good at translating it to English or reading it. If the classes were smaller it would keep the attention of the children and hopefully they all could leave reading and understanding what they are reading. If you are considering enrolling your child into this school…Please put your time all the way into it. Keep teaching your child the English stuff at home on a regular. One thing I did like was the school had a program called “raise a reader”. My child came home with 3 to 4 new books every week for us to read to him/her (the books are in English).I like the school because they are very good at discipline, structure and reinforcing positive behavior. Do not get me wrong I really think it is a great school. But really… the classes need to be smaller not 21 or 22 children in a class. I know this is the norm for Baltimore City… I am still fishing my way though BIA. I still have a lot to learn and I just want my child to be able to succeed and be able to keep up with other schools when he/she starts High School. I think I made the right choice… BIA offers a lot of school functions for the children and that is wonderful. Just remember parent involvement is very important with BIA.

I finally pulled my two sons out after 7 years. I would consider myself a fairly involved parent, on the side of teachers, that worked to try and make BIA successful. There are some really great teachers there, and some great student families, but the administration does not lead enough to provide a healthy atmosphere for learning.

My diagnosis is that there is no model for a philosophy of respect for the students and their potential. Generally speaking, students are treated like little bothersome nuisances. Rules and draconian policies are set to expect the worst possible behavior. Sometimes kids are referred to by number, rather than by name. Whole-class bathroom breaks are scheduled. Everyone is supposed to move around the school in lines, all because they don’t trust the students. Yet, because there are no real consequences for bad behavior, much of the school day is chaos.

Lots of schools are having real problems with behavior these days, but the administration at BIA has given up. There is never a suspension, even for assault and bullying during class time. The most-often used punitive measure is to bar the whole class from recess, even if only a few kids were misbehaving. There is also no recess for middle school at all. (These policies are against BCPS rules.) Students are hardly ever allowed outside, even during COVID-19.

BIA has teacher-led bible and prayer meetings at the school. They sometimes promote Christmas in class. Substitute teachers are often unqualified and lose total control of the classroom. The facility is not clean. The bathrooms always smell of urine. The lunch staff is practically violent.

I gave 2 stars because some of the teachers are so exceptional that they sometimes achieve great things for their students, in spite of the administration and atmosphere. There are some real success stories for a few kids. The teachers of the younger grades in French are particularly great, including Ms. Tchapda, Mr. Allucier, Mr. Ben Zahni, and Mr. Mbami. The ELA team is led by Dr. Moore who is a beacon of light for the school.

There is potential at BIA, but they need an overhaul in how they treat the students, and take a hard look at what kind of atmosphere they want to create.

I love this school. My son has came so far along in speaking French. The exposure to various cultures and traditions is also an important piece of the educational experience. They have begun to try and start concerts and programs on time. This is helpful for those on a tight time schedule. It’s difficult to reach the PTO. The office staff are amazing.

Hampsetad Hill Academy is a great school it has lots of fun after school programs and clubs there is basically something for everyone. All the teachers are nice and care about their students. Also the kids there are very nice and welcoming to new students so students are very liable to have friends at this school.

To be honest, the school is okay. Most of the time the teachers or staff just ignore problems that are going on in the school. For example, the coaches at recess don’t do anything but sit there. This announcement from William Penn HighSchool pretty much sums up why I feel as though this school deserves one star.

Statement regarding September 8th WPHS Football Game

At approximately 4:55 pm, at the conclusion of today’s football game between William Penn(WP) HS and Mergenthaler VoTech HS (Baltimore City, MD) at Bill Cole Stadium, the visiting team confronted two William Penn fans which caused a disturbance.

Mergenthaler was winning the game by a score of 14 – 7, and towards the end of the fourth quarter, Mergenthaler players began taunting WP players. Their head coach was also ejected from the game in the last minute for entering the field of play and yelling at the officials. At the conclusion of play, WP players were directed by WP Head Coach Matt Sabol, to go to the end zone on the opposite side of the field, away from the opposing players.

As the Mergenthaler players & coaches exited the field, they were overheard using obscenities and inappropriate gestures towards WP fans and spectators exiting the stadium. Two William Penn students exiting the game, were immediately confronted by a few members of the opposing team. Suddenly, more Mergenthaler football players engaged in confrontation with the two William Penn students.

No William Penn players were involved in the incident, which lasted about 5 minutes.

The school’s administration, district constables, and William Penn fans were able to extract the WP students from the incident, but tensions remained high and police were called for additional support. With additional police support the scene was calmed as the Mergenthaler team left in their buses.

The Colonial School District would like to commend the WP Football coaching staff and players for their sportsmanship in this tense situation. The Colonial School District would also like to recognize the WP administrative team and constables for their efforts to maintain safety and security for all those in attendance at the game. The Colonial School District also appreciates the spectators and fans who chose not to engage in the incident but help diffuse it.

i used to go to this school and it was horrible!! the students were disrespectful and acted like they had 0 home training. i didn’t feel safe walking in those halls. the bathrooms had no doors and there was little to no soap. no covers for the windows. the staff was horrible and called your parents for absolutely nothing. the food was terrible. the amount of fights that occurred was unacceptable. they had the police there almost every week. thanks.

My 3 older daughters attend the school. It is a great school for young ladies to learn and help to get them on the right track for their futures. They have a great staff of teachers and administrators. I do not know what this school teach but they don’t teach them how to behave outside the school. they run in on coming traffic playing a live game of frogger. They also run around and scream leaving a mess in the library that’s next door to the school. The other day the librarian ask them to settle down and they pull out their phones and record the woman expecting her to respond to it as they giggle and play around.

My child has been number 6 on the waiting list since the beginning of 2017 school year and she is now #3 and the lottery close on April 6th. My daughter and I was very excited and she really wanted to attend The Seed School. My God daughter and nephew attends the school and i see how much they have learned on a college level. This breaks my daughter heart that she won’t attend The Seed. I have notice more boys were picked than girls off the waiting list. I wish things was different .

Ill-mannered and undisciplined, the Seed school of Maryland is NOT an educational place to put your child in. Most of the staff here are disrespectful and very rude. This school doesn’t challenge many students here and the Common Core Curriculum isn’t taught here. The academic staff seem to believe that being on a 4th grade reading level whilst in 8th grade is a GREAT thing for students. They have low expectations for students which cause for students to have low expectations for themselves. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD HERE! I removed my nephew from this school and enrolled him in Virginia public school that has a one to ten teacher to student ratio. We have since discovered that he has never taken a standardized test to determine what he has learned over the past ten years while in Baltimore City public schools. He recently took the Virginia Standard of Learning (SOL) test and have discovered that he is behind in every subject! My wife and I have been working with him and the school and have also discovered that although he is behind, he is EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT and somehow no one along his educational journey have picked up on his gifted abilities. I don’t usually write reviews, but I want to know why this special school (The Seed School) have NOT realized his learning abilities and labeled him as a student with LEARNING DISABILITIES! I am a concerned African American retired military man, a successful business owner and my wife is a doctor and we are truly DISTURBED at the lack of academic achievements of The Seed School. No one can get accepted into any productive higher institution of learning that ensures our children can have a stable future with a SAT score of 1010. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR OUR AFRICAN AMERICAN CHILDREN AND THOSE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE BACKING THIS PROGRAM SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES AND ALL THOSE INVOLVED!!

My son was chosen from the waiting list October 2013. A lot of people assume the Seed School is only for “At Risk Kids”. Nothing could be further from the truth. The Seed School is for all kids. Seed provide kids with a safe and nurturing environment while maintaining high standards for the children’s academic achievement. While in elementary my child produced A’s and B’s and continues Honor Roll while at Seed. Seed definitely pushes for high GPA’s and reward each child for working so hard. For Seed, low grade averages are unacceptable and failing is not an option.

I have a low income single family household. So, for so many of us, The Seed School is the only way our children have a chance at COLLEGE or any of the oppurtunities that The Seed School of Maryland offer.

I left there in 2013 and it’s exactly how the first person described it.. Security are friends with the kids as if they’re teenagers also. Only 2 out of 5 of your teachers will actually care if your learning what they’re teaching or not. The children are pretty much in charge.

The students there are the worst. They keep coming into the store that I work and keep causing trouble. Every time they come in they are disrespectful to me and my family, they curse, and on top of it all steal from us. I just got into contact with two of them today. They refused to leave when I told them to and but the moment they decide to leave they took a few merchandise with them. This incident has happened twice this past two week. I don’t what is going on in that school, but clearly they are not doing a good job teaching their students about respect.

Stadium has structures in place so that learning can take place. The school also provides many opportunities for the students to continue learning outside of the classroom through many field trip experiences.

I REMEMBER BEFORE I LEFT COLD STREAM PARK TO GO TO BARCLAY EL/MID I MEAN I HAVE ATTENDED THIS SCHOOL IN HISTORY OR LIFE 1ST OR 2ND MAYBE LEFT 3rd i think i dont think many people did call me booper or boop in school anyways most people well would have called my by my name Terry- but i remember some name classes and people well obviously everyone from my classes would be adult’s by now it’s far past the 90s further past the 80’s everyone may not remember everyone or might happen to remeber some better then others but im sure students of any age should remeber the schools they have attended this just happens to one those i have attend in life – tao of true religion circle

This the worst school ever they dont contact you back and the principal as not a knowledge person and she dose nothing to resolve issues
